For the last ten years I’ve spent July 4th either beachside in San Diego or lakeside in Tahoe. It’s always a day full of friends, sunshine, cold beers, bbqing, and amazing memories. It’s one of my favorite holidays and really signifies the start of summer.

It’s also the perfect excuse for outfits that combine two of my obsessions: everything nautical and Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” cover. You know the one. Here are my July 4th dress picks (which could also be titled “Denim is BACK”) for wherever the holiday takes you, all for under $100.

Friday Musings – 6/26/2015

Friday Musings - 6/24/15

1) What a truly amazing day! Today’s Supreme Court ruling gave same-sex couples the right to marry in all 50 states. I am very proud and excited to celebrate here in San Francisco, where this decision coincides with Pride weekend!

2) Do you ever find yourself spending an exorbitant amount of time making clothing-related decisions? Do I need this? Which color do I like? Which would I wear more? While thinking about these questions make a smart shopper, I’m definitely past the point of reasonable questions and have been staring at these two sneakers for the last hour trying to decide which one I NEED. I’ve been looking for a new pair of every-day sneakers for a while and these Brooks ones (on sale!) have majorly caught my eye with the adorable colors and retro style (and I’m pretty partial to having “Brooks,” my name, written on it..).

Help me decide pretty please! Pink or blue ??

3) I love my white jeans. LOVE. Unfortunately (and I’m not ashamed to admit) I can be quite clumsy / absentminded at times, and my white jeans bear the brunt of it. I am far from a laundry-aficionado and really appreciate Madewell’s seven tips for taking care of white jeans.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

It’s officially summer!!

While it won’t be hitting any record temperatures in San Francisco for another couple months, it’s the perfect time to stock up on light and breezy tops for upcoming summer vacations. So far we have trips planned to Lake Tahoe, San Diego, Napa Valley, and Bend, Oregon – places where we can count on some real summer heat! Nothing is better.

I can’t believe the above tops are all under $60. Grab a few and pair with distressed denim shorts and sandals to be summer ready in no time.

Gingham: Runway to Your Way

Ginham: Runway to Your Way

Gingham is a summer staple. While it’s always been in my picnic basket, I love how it showed up unexpectedly on the Spring 15 runways and is still going strong. The pieces above are all under $100 and couldn’t be cuter. I have my eye on this ruffled blouse.

Six Clicks – Week of June 15

Six Clicks 6/16/15

1. Love this home tour of a San Francisco, Pacific Heights apartment. Great inspiration for renters.

2. Perfect summer hat for only $15.

3. Happy to jump on the suede trend with this adorable light blue top.

4. Remember this post where I obsessed over Gray Malin’s amazing jet-setting photography? He just put out a line of fun beach towels with his photos.

5. This barn in the English countryside was converted into the most charming guest cottage. Click the links to see the beautiful interior, full of bookshelves and heirlooms. I can’t stop daydreaming of a weekend away here. {original UK House and Garden post here}

6. This hydration mask is SO AMAZING I almost wanted to give it its own post. You know how your skin looks and feels when you’re well-rested, have a great work out, do some yoga and meditation, and drink lots of water? That’s what this does. I’ve been using it a few times a week and can see major changes – it makes my skin glow, feel so soft and hydrated, and diminishes fine lines. You can pick it up at Target or Ulta for only $15, which is just insane.

Weekend Reflections

Summer Afternoons

I just love that Henry James quote, don’t you?

I celebrated my birthday on Sunday with friends at Tomales Bay Oyster Company. It’s the perfect place to sip champagne, shuck oysters, BBQ, relax, and enjoy the natural beauty of West Marin. Simply stunning. It was my first time to an oyster farm, and definitely won’t be my last.

I was also pretty excited to finally embrace the overall trend I’ve been coveting (post here). I try to only buy quality, classic pieces – which overalls are not. So I was thrilled when I found these at Target, on clearance, for under $20, and could finally jump on the bandwagon without any guilt.

The ease of a summer dress.

Living in San Francisco you know to never trust the weather reports, so it’s especially delightful to wake up to the sun and be able to pull out a summer dress from the back of your closet. It’s a constant surprise! On these days, nothing is easier than throwing on a light and bright summer dress to look instantly polished and ready for a beautiful day. I rounded up some of my Shopbop favorites here, all for under $100.

It’s my birthday this weekend and we will be heading north to one of my favorite places – Tomales Bay – for some oyster shucking and picnicking. I’m keeping my fingers crossed the sun will be out and I can throw one of these on.

Happy Friday!

Roundup: H&M
June! It’s my birthday month! While I’m not into excessive celebration, I am down to receive coupons from retailers that do want to celebrate my birthday all month long.
I just received one from H&M for 40% off an online purchase in June. So of course I must waste a ridiculous amount of time scouring their website for some me-presents. Here is a roundup of the best goodies I found. With most items under $60, you don’t even need the birthday discount.

The Ballet Flat ~ For Less

balletballetflatssBallet Flats

I can never have enough ballet flats. My favorites are in a soft nude leather, with a sweet bow, and toe cleavage (yes, that’s a thing!) – like I literally just came from the ballet studio. JCrew has beautiful, classic ballet flats that are as I just described, but for $100+. As I tend to wear these daily, I hate having to worry about scuffing them up (which is inevitable) at that price.

Luckily, there are so many great quality, less expensive options. I own a few of the above (the Banana, Gap, and JCrew Factory pairs) and they have lasted much longer than their JCrew counterparts. While I always gravitate towards nude and black flats, it’s fun to play around with color and leopard to add a flash of color to your outfit.

I find they go with pretty much anything, but I especially love pairing them with cutoff shorts or boyfriend jeans, like above. So comfortable and so chic. Happy dancing!
