For the last ten years I’ve spent July 4th either beachside in San Diego or lakeside in Tahoe. It’s always a day full of friends, sunshine, cold beers, bbqing, and amazing memories. It’s one of my favorite holidays and really signifies the start of summer.

It’s also the perfect excuse for outfits that combine two of my obsessions: everything nautical and Bruce Springsteen’s “Born in the USA” cover. You know the one. Here are my July 4th dress picks (which could also be titled “Denim is BACK”) for wherever the holiday takes you, all for under $100.

It’s officially summer!!

While it won’t be hitting any record temperatures in San Francisco for another couple months, it’s the perfect time to stock up on light and breezy tops for upcoming summer vacations. So far we have trips planned to Lake Tahoe, San Diego, Napa Valley, and Bend, Oregon – places where we can count on some real summer heat! Nothing is better.

I can’t believe the above tops are all under $60. Grab a few and pair with distressed denim shorts and sandals to be summer ready in no time.

Gingham: Runway to Your Way

Ginham: Runway to Your Way

Gingham is a summer staple. While it’s always been in my picnic basket, I love how it showed up unexpectedly on the Spring 15 runways and is still going strong. The pieces above are all under $100 and couldn’t be cuter. I have my eye on this ruffled blouse.

Six Clicks – Week of June 15

Six Clicks 6/16/15

1. Love this home tour of a San Francisco, Pacific Heights apartment. Great inspiration for renters.

2. Perfect summer hat for only $15.

3. Happy to jump on the suede trend with this adorable light blue top.

4. Remember this post where I obsessed over Gray Malin’s amazing jet-setting photography? He just put out a line of fun beach towels with his photos.

5. This barn in the English countryside was converted into the most charming guest cottage. Click the links to see the beautiful interior, full of bookshelves and heirlooms. I can’t stop daydreaming of a weekend away here. {original UK House and Garden post here}

6. This hydration mask is SO AMAZING I almost wanted to give it its own post. You know how your skin looks and feels when you’re well-rested, have a great work out, do some yoga and meditation, and drink lots of water? That’s what this does. I’ve been using it a few times a week and can see major changes – it makes my skin glow, feel so soft and hydrated, and diminishes fine lines. You can pick it up at Target or Ulta for only $15, which is just insane.

Weekend Reflections

Summer Afternoons

I just love that Henry James quote, don’t you?

I celebrated my birthday on Sunday with friends at Tomales Bay Oyster Company. It’s the perfect place to sip champagne, shuck oysters, BBQ, relax, and enjoy the natural beauty of West Marin. Simply stunning. It was my first time to an oyster farm, and definitely won’t be my last.

I was also pretty excited to finally embrace the overall trend I’ve been coveting (post here). I try to only buy quality, classic pieces – which overalls are not. So I was thrilled when I found these at Target, on clearance, for under $20, and could finally jump on the bandwagon without any guilt.

  1. On the tippity top of my wishlist, this marble cheese dome will be great for displaying both cheeses and baked goods.
  2. I purchased this dress during a 40% off sale last week and it is the most comfortable and flattering thing ever. Ruching perfection.
  3. Beautiful little article on pursuing the small, happy life.

  6. Perfect for your next picnic – not only cute, this S’well bottle will keep a beverage cold for 24 hours or hot for 12.

Roundup: H&M

Roundup: H&M
June! It’s my birthday month! While I’m not into excessive celebration, I am down to receive coupons from retailers that do want to celebrate my birthday all month long.
I just received one from H&M for 40% off an online purchase in June. So of course I must waste a ridiculous amount of time scouring their website for some me-presents. Here is a roundup of the best goodies I found. With most items under $60, you don’t even need the birthday discount.

The Ballet Flat ~ For Less

balletballetflatssBallet Flats

I can never have enough ballet flats. My favorites are in a soft nude leather, with a sweet bow, and toe cleavage (yes, that’s a thing!) – like I literally just came from the ballet studio. JCrew has beautiful, classic ballet flats that are as I just described, but for $100+. As I tend to wear these daily, I hate having to worry about scuffing them up (which is inevitable) at that price.

Luckily, there are so many great quality, less expensive options. I own a few of the above (the Banana, Gap, and JCrew Factory pairs) and they have lasted much longer than their JCrew counterparts. While I always gravitate towards nude and black flats, it’s fun to play around with color and leopard to add a flash of color to your outfit.

I find they go with pretty much anything, but I especially love pairing them with cutoff shorts or boyfriend jeans, like above. So comfortable and so chic. Happy dancing!

You guys. This outfit. !!!

To be honest, when overalls started reemerging I was super confused and could never imagine embracing the trend. I cringe thinking back to the baggy-short-overalls I wore as a tomboy in elementary school (perfect for climbing trees!), and never thought they could be made chic and current. Neo-Traditionalist’s post last week of Loeffler Randall shoe designer Jessie Randall was a total game changer for me. Learning her adorable striped overalls were from Forever 21 made it even better.

Make sure your overalls are fitted through the hips, and pair with an uber-girly top (like the feminine eyelet blouse Randall wore) to keep from looking like that 12 year old in a tree. I can’t wait to recreate this perfect weekend outfit.

Hawaii Happy Hour: What I’ll Wear

Hawaii Happy Hour

TGIThursday! We are heading back to Hawaii tomorrow for a friends wedding and our first stop is a Happy Hour on the beach. I just received this amazing bohemian-chic dress yesterday and it’s everything I could have hoped for – the light and breezy fabric drapes perfectly over your body, and it’s ideal to throw on over a bikini to go effortlessly from day to night. I’m sure I’ll be wearing it more than once this trip.

I’m looking forward to sand in my hair, {an attempt at} golden tans, and bottomless pina colada’s! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
