The Ballet Flat ~ For Less

balletballetflatssBallet Flats

I can never have enough ballet flats. My favorites are in a soft nude leather, with a sweet bow, and toe cleavage (yes, that’s a thing!) – like I literally just came from the ballet studio. JCrew has beautiful, classic ballet flats that are as I just described, but for $100+. As I tend to wear these daily, I hate having to worry about scuffing them up (which is inevitable) at that price.

Luckily, there are so many great quality, less expensive options. I own a few of the above (the Banana, Gap, and JCrew Factory pairs) and they have lasted much longer than their JCrew counterparts. While I always gravitate towards nude and black flats, it’s fun to play around with color and leopard to add a flash of color to your outfit.

I find they go with pretty much anything, but I especially love pairing them with cutoff shorts or boyfriend jeans, like above. So comfortable and so chic. Happy dancing!

You guys. This outfit. !!!

To be honest, when overalls started reemerging I was super confused and could never imagine embracing the trend. I cringe thinking back to the baggy-short-overalls I wore as a tomboy in elementary school (perfect for climbing trees!), and never thought they could be made chic and current. Neo-Traditionalist’s post last week of Loeffler Randall shoe designer Jessie Randall was a total game changer for me. Learning her adorable striped overalls were from Forever 21 made it even better.

Make sure your overalls are fitted through the hips, and pair with an uber-girly top (like the feminine eyelet blouse Randall wore) to keep from looking like that 12 year old in a tree. I can’t wait to recreate this perfect weekend outfit.

Hawaii Happy Hour: What I’ll Wear

Hawaii Happy Hour

TGIThursday! We are heading back to Hawaii tomorrow for a friends wedding and our first stop is a Happy Hour on the beach. I just received this amazing bohemian-chic dress yesterday and it’s everything I could have hoped for – the light and breezy fabric drapes perfectly over your body, and it’s ideal to throw on over a bikini to go effortlessly from day to night. I’m sure I’ll be wearing it more than once this trip.

I’m looking forward to sand in my hair, {an attempt at} golden tans, and bottomless pina colada’s! I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Lucy Williams of blog Fashion Me Now is just so cool. This post was almost the death of me – complete with my beloved Breton stripes, scallops, and THOSE shoes. I had to recreate it immediately.

Take your inspiration and tweak it to become your own – like switching sandals to oxfords, or suede to denim. The above variations will fit your budget, while still channeling Lucy’s uber-cool British-chic Penny Lane style.

Everyday Sneakers

Sneakers

I can definitely get on board any trend that embraces comfort. Pair these sneakers with skinny jeans for a coffee date, shopping, running errands, or an urban hike. I used to always think this style screamed ‘tourist’ but sneakers have become a closet staple for daywear; the perfect item for a girl-on-the-go. There are so many fun styles out there to choose from, and the Nike Roshe’s are customizable so you can get creative and design your own perfect shoe. My favorite updated classic and retro styles are above, all under $100! I am hoping to add this and this pair to my wardrobe (but would gladly take them all!) Happy shopping!

Skincare Investments

Skincare Investments

Step 1 / Step 2 / Step 3 / Step 4 / Step 5

I’ve always thought that I would happily age gracefully, embracing my wrinkles as expressions of a life full of laughter. So romantic, right? My approach to makeup and skincare was similarly blasé: the only skincare product I used was face wash, and I never understood why anyone would spend $50 on a product that could be purchased for a fraction of the price at a drugstore. Then one day I woke up with a wrinkle and that completely naive outlook changed dramatically. Let’s face it, at some point you need to start investing in your skin.

I consider myself very lucky to have friends that are obsessed with beauty products and try every sample they can get their hands on – they get to do all the work, and I get the recommendations. The above products have been recommended to me numerous times, and once *the wrinkle* happened, I too became totally obsessed. Doing these five steps daily makes my skin feel soft, nourished, and radiant. Happy skin is worth every penny.

The Leather Jacket

Leather Jacket

I just love the look of a leather motorcycle jacket thrown over a flirty dress. It’s such an effortless and foolproof outfit. You’re girly, edgy, comfortable, and chic – one of those ‘don’t try to label me, I am who I am’ outfits.

I love balancing hard and soft pieces together, and this combo is perfect for a spring day in the City. The leather moto jackets I’ve been eyeing are $500+ so I starting looking at faux leather to keep the cost down, while making sure don’t look or feel cheaper. These six fit the bill, and have an amazing price point – all under $200!

1. Zara Biker Jacket $99 / 2. Zara Studded Jacket $129
3. Zara Faux Leather Biker Jacket $99 / 4. Cheap Monday Wish Jacket $140
5. Blank Denim Vegan Moto Jacket $124 / 6. Topshop Faux Leather Biker Jacket $94
